Can't stand them

Coincidence: I get a gift certificate from Ma Bim and do a big CD purchase. I unwittingly come up with two Scottish selections from the post rock and first wave punk genres. Can't recall the last time I bought music from Scotland. (Though I must say that the Rezillos are more suited to bopping around my bedroom afterschool as a 14 year old with "Somebody's Gonna to Get Their Head Kicked in Tonight" at full volume to piss off my parents downstairs. Or maybe I shouldn't take myself so seriously and enjoy it now...)

Coincidence: Right now I'm listening to a musician who Mrs. B and I saw one hot July evening in a Denton, TX bar as we waited to see the latest incarnation of Karla Bozulich (oh, was I disappointed- she was doing some gospel shouting catharsis instead of Geraldine Fibbers rawk that I had waited 10 years to see). Anyways, the musician filling the opening slot for a handful of Shiner swillers sang and played unconventional fiddle. Noting that she referred to the cold and a glacier in her lyrics, we approached her after the set and introduced ourselves as denizens of the North where such things did not seem as odd as they did on that July afternoon in Texas. She revealed that she was from Minnesota. Then later we find out that she was a former student of the Fra. Still later, I learn that she put out an album at 4AD, the esteemed British label.
